LO2 - Legal and Ethical considerations/Copyright/Libel - Slander

Ways my magazine could break the law:
- Could contain logos and images that I don't have permission to use, therefor violating copyright law
-Racist content and viewpoints
-Sexism and misrepresentation of either gender

Law 1
Obscene Publications Act 1959 and 1964:
This act was made to amend the law relating to the publication of obscene content and to strengthen the law concerning pornography.

'This law makes it an offence to publish, whether for gain or not, any content whose effect will tend to "deprave or corrupt' those likely to read, hear or see the matter contained and embodied in it.'

My magazine will not contain any pornographic or explicit content that may be offensive or may cause in the corruption of the reader.

Law 2
The Defamation Act 2013

'This act states that a publisher has broken the law when it publishes content in which:
-A statement is defamatory when its publication has caused or is likely to cause serious harm to the reputation of the claimant
-For the purposes of this section, harm to the reputation of a body that trades for profit when it has caused or is likely to cause the body serious financial loss.'

I will avoid breaking this law by making my magazine completely truthful and all opinions being made clear they are simply opinions. I will be careful if giving a negative reviews, but will be more geared towards being positive and only telling facts.

Law 3
Copyright Law
Copyright Law is there to protect the original producer of specific content.

I shall avoid infringing the Copyright Law by only publishing content that is produced 100% by myself. I shall not contain anyone else's work within my magazine, every screen capture and image shall be taken by or created by me.

Law 4
Negligent Publication

'The author and/or publisher under certain circumstances, either individually or jointly, could be found liable for 'incitement' or 'negligent publication' if a reader found their publication is seriously injured, dies or suffers damage to their personal property after acting upon or using the content contained in the publication. (Food & DIY magazines especially)'

I shall avoid Negligent Publication by ensuring that everything stated within my magazine will be safe for my viewers. If I were to give directions/suggestions within my magazine I shall tell the audience that it is only recommend and warn them if anything was dangerous.

Ethical Issues

As my magazine is a gaming magazine I shall be taking photographs of games within certain stores like CEX. I shall get permission from the stores and get them to sign a release and consent form, I will also not capture any image with their logo on as I want to a void the copyright law.

LO2 - Images Taken for Production

These are my most useable images that I have taken. I went to CEX and then took pictures after carefully following my Risk assessment and Recce sheets. The images I decided to take all involved PlayStation 4 as that is the main focus of my magazine, and the bulk of my knowledge pin upcoming games.

Games on Shelves

Destiny on shelf

This is the main charazter on my front cover. So these images may come in useful.

Starwars Battlefront on Shelf

This was my most essential image that i had to capture, as i will have an entire page dedicated on wether this game will be worth the amount of money that they are asking for it. Purely based off the BETA.
